On the afternoon of September 29, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held its 22nd collective study session on systematically advancing the Sinicization of religions in China. Presiding over the session, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, emphasized the need to draw on historical experience, ground efforts in the realities of China’s religious work, strengthen systematic thinking, enhance institutional regulation, improve comprehensive governance, reinforce foundational work at the grassroots level, systematically advance the Sinicization of religions in China, and actively guide religions to adapt to socialist society.

Comrade Zhang Xunmou, Director of the Religious Research Center of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, delivered an explanatory report on this topic and put forward work recommendations. Members of the Political Bureau listened attentively to the report and engaged in discussion.

Xi Jinping delivered an important speech after listening to the report and discussion. He pointed out that since the 18th CCP National Congress, the Party has placed religious affairs at a prominent position in state governance. It has clearly put forward a series of new concepts and measures, including the adhering to the Sinicization of religions in China, improving the institutional mechanisms for religious work, enhancing the rule of law in religious affairs, which achieved positive results in religious work in the new era. History and practice have proven that only by continuously advancing the Sinicization of religions in China can we promote religious harmony, ethnic unity, social harmony, and long-term stability of the country.
习近平在听取讲解和讨论后发表重要讲话。他指出，党的十八大以来，我们党把宗教工作摆在治国理政的重要位置，鲜明提出坚持我国宗教中国化方向等一系列新理念新举措，完善宗教工作体制机制，提高宗教工作法治化水平，推动新时代宗教工作取得积极成效。历史和实践证明，只有不断推进我国宗教中国化，才能促进宗教和顺、民族和睦、社会和谐、国家长治久安。
Xi Jinping emphasized that China is a socialist country under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party, and actively guiding religions to adapt to a socialist society is an inevitable requirement. We must adhere to the guidance of socialist core values, guide religious figures and believers to firmly establish correct views on the nation, history, ethnicity, culture, and religion, to continuously enhance the “five identifications,” and to consciously devote themselves to the construction of Chinese modernization.
习近平强调，我国是中国共产党领导的社会主义国家，积极引导宗教与社会主义社会相适应是必然要求。要坚持以社会主义核心价值观为引领，引导宗教界人士和信教群众牢固树立正确的国家观、历史观、民族观、文化观、宗教观，不断增进“五个认同”，自觉投身中国式现代化建设。
Xi Jinping pointed out that only by remaining rooted in Chinese soil and steeped in Chinese culture can religions in China be passed down healthily. We must draw upon China’s 5000-year civilization to promote the integration of religions in China with the fine traditions of Chinese culture, guiding religious figures and believers to strengthen their sense of cultural identity with the Chinese civilization.
习近平指出，我国各宗教只有始终扎根中华大地、浸润中华文化，才能健康传承。要植根中华五千年文明，推动我国宗教同中华优秀传统文化相融合，引导宗教界人士和信教群众增强中华文化认同感。
Xi Jinping stressed that stimulating the religious community to take initiative and pursue self-reform is crucial for advancing the Sinicization of religions in China. We must support and guide the religious community to reflect Chinese characteristics and adapt to contemporary demands in areas such as doctrines, management systems, rituals, customs, and behavioral norms, thereby enhancing their capacity for self-education, self-management, and self-discipline.
习近平强调，激发宗教界主动作为、自我变革，对推进我国宗教中国化至关重要。要支持引导宗教界在教义教规、管理制度、礼仪习俗、行为规范等方面体现中国特色、适应时代要求，提高自我教育、自我管理、自我约束水平。
Xi Jinping pointed out that governing religious affairs according to the law is the fundamental approach to properly addressing various contradictions and issues in the religious sphere. Relevant laws and policies must be improved, legal education and publicity must be deepened, strict law enforcement must be promoted, and the level of law-based governance in religious work must be effectively enhanced.
习近平指出，依法治理宗教事务，是正确处理宗教领域各种矛盾和问题的根本途径。要完善相关法规和政策，深入开展法治宣传教育，推动严格执法，切实提高宗教工作法治化水平。
Xi Jinping stressed that Party committees at all levels must strengthen their leadership over religious affairs, fully implement the Party’s theories and policies on religious work in the new era, deepen research on strategic, fundamental, and practical issues, enhance the development of the religious work team, consolidate the grassroots foundation, and further build a concerted effort to advance the Sinicization of religions in China.
习近平强调，各级党委要加强对宗教工作的领导，全面贯彻新时代党的宗教工作理论和方针政策，深化战略性、基础性、现实性问题研究，加强宗教工作队伍建设，夯实基层基础，进一步形成推进我国宗教中国化的合力。
